The Host

Better when there's people in the living room.

For you, home is best shared. You cook for others, keep the door open and don't mind the noise.

One of Roomealo's eight living profiles. If you recognise yourself, you probably are one.

How someone with the The Host profile lives

Your evenings start late and rarely alone. You're the one who texts “anyone fancy dinner?” at eight, cooks for whoever says yes and doesn't mind three extra people turning up. The living room is your room, really; your bedroom is where you sleep. Doors stay open, music stays on, and you'll happily lend your charger, your olive oil and your last clean mug. A quiet flat on a Friday night feels, to you, slightly wrong.

You make a flat feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere they store their stuff. New flatmates settle in fast because you introduce them to everyone. You're generous with food and time, and you say things to people's faces, which means small problems get talked about over a beer instead of festering. You're also genuinely adaptable: change the plan, move the dinner, swap the rota, you'll go with it.

Your blind spot is that not everyone recharges the way you do. Someone who came home to rest, not to meet your mates, will start staying in their room, and you may not notice until they've already decided to move out. Noise at midnight is nothing to you and everything to an early riser. And while you're happy to share, you can be loose about whose turn it is to replace what you've used, and about tidying up after the crowd has gone.

What to ask at the viewing if you're a The Host

  1. 1.How do people here feel about friends coming round on a weeknight, and is there a point in the evening where it's expected to go quiet?
  2. 2.When was the last time everyone in the flat did something together, and whose idea was it?
  3. 3.If I cooked for the house a couple of times a week, how would that land: welcome, or a bit much?
