The Methodical

Clear rules make everything easier.

You'd rather agree things on day one. It isn't rigidity — you just hate misunderstandings.

One of Roomealo's eight living profiles. If you recognise yourself, you probably are one.

How someone with the The Methodical profile lives

You're an early bird and your morning has a sequence: the same breakfast, the counter wiped, out by the same time. You come home to a flat that, if it's up to you, looks like nobody lives in it. There's a rota on the fridge and you're the one who wrote it, updated it and actually follows it. Bills are paid the day they arrive, splits are worked out to the penny, and you'd like a heads-up before anyone has people round.

Nobody has to wonder where they stand with you. If something's wrong you'll say it the same day, plainly and without drama, and then it's over. You're the reason the flat has a cleaning rota that works, a spreadsheet for bills and a broadband contract that got renewed on time. You're not a big presence in the living room, but you're a reliable one, and flatmates who've lived in chaos before find your version of home deeply restful.

Your difficulty is that you don't bend much, and you know it. When the plan changes at the last minute, you feel it as a breach rather than a Tuesday. A flatmate who leaves a pan to soak overnight is, in your head, someone who doesn't respect the agreement. You can come across as running the flat, even when nobody asked you to, and people who find rules stifling will start to avoid you. The mess isn't what gets you; it's that nobody told you.

What to ask at the viewing if you're a The Methodical

  1. 1.How are cleaning and bills organised right now, and what happens when someone doesn't stick to it?
  2. 2.If you were making a change to how the flat runs, how would that decision get made, and who'd be told when?
  3. 3.How much notice do people give each other before having guests, and is that a rule or just what tends to happen?
