The 8 types of flatmate (and which one you fit with)
No profile is better than another. Some fit together and some clash. These are the eight we use to match flatmates, with what works and what usually causes trouble in each.
Quiet Nest
Home is for resting.
You like coming home to a calm flat. You're not antisocial — you just keep going out and life at home separate.
Tidy people, low noise, who respect personal space.
The Host
Better when there's people in the living room.
For you, home is best shared. You cook for others, keep the door open and don't mind the noise.
Sociable, flexible people on a similar schedule.
The Balancer
Neither library nor afterparty.
You're comfortable in the middle: dinner together some nights, quiet when it's time, reasonable tidiness.
Almost anyone who isn't at an extreme.
Quiet Owl
You live at night, and softly.
Your best hours start when the flat has gone quiet. You make little noise and you'd rather nobody made it either.
Calm night people, or flatmates who are rarely home.
Open House
What's in the house is everyone's.
You share food, things and plans without keeping score. Making a little family out of your flatmates comes naturally.
Generous people who don't count every euro.
The Methodical
Clear rules make everything easier.
You'd rather agree things on day one. It isn't rigidity — you just hate misunderstandings.
Tidy people who appreciate clarity.
The Easygoing
We'll figure it out.
Mess and changes of plan don't stress you. You adapt to almost any household without drama.
Relaxed people, light on rules.
Shared Kitchen
Dinner together, then each to their own.
You enjoy life at home without it being a party. Cooking together, a bit of table talk, then everyone does their thing.
Sociable, tidy people on compatible schedules.
How the profiles are worked out
The living compatibility test scores each person on eight dimensions: tidiness, noise, schedule, social life, privacy, sharing, communication and flexibility. The result is a profile of eight numbers.
Each of the eight profiles is a reference point in that same space. Yours is the one closest to your answers: not a label you pick, but the way of living most like your own. That's why nobody is “one hundred per cent” a profile, and why two people with the same profile can fit differently.
Compatibility between two people isn't decided by the name of the profile but by the distance between their answers, dimension by dimension. Take the test and you'll see yours.
Which profiles fit together
Calculated with the same engine the product uses, on each type's reference profile. “Fits” is 78% or higher; “clashes” is 66% or lower. In between, it depends on the person.
